Family Guy? I don't think I could come up with five at all. Kind of surprized to see Speed Racer, but I'd include him on my list. I'd go even further back and include the original Astro Boy. How about Space Cruiser Yamato which ran as Starblazers in the US. If Family Guy can be listed, I'd include REBOOT and Gargoyles. Hmm! I guess that it is five.Extend it to ten and I'd include the original G.I. Joe and original Transformers too. Original Johnny Quest also.

(1) Starblazers (draws you in the second you hear the opening music and doesn't let go. It's impossible to describe if you have never seen it. Truly majestic in scope).
(2) Battle of the Planets (my favorite was the redubbed series that came out in the 70's because the voice acting was awesome and in addition to the original music you also got some really rocking guitar work as well that I don't know existed in the original Japanese version. And Jason was a badass!)
(3) Lupin the 3rd (original series and animated movies)
(4) Mysterious Cities of Gold (you can only find the DVD's of this in French in region 2 format but it used to come on in the US during the late 80's on Nickelodeon and was just amazing to behold. A rare and unique little gem.)
(5) UFO Grandizer (one of my favorite old school "giant robot" series).

The best of 'em all:

ROBOTECH

Macross Saga blew my mind when I saw it in the 80's. I own it on VHS and DVD. Granted, the "love story" between Rick and Min Mei got real old real quick, the action was still the best. And the music. Someone else here said something about being drawn in from the beginning, same thing here. The Mech's were totally cool, and influenced a whole genre.

ROBOTECH had it all.
